with JAMES JOHNSON
Two day workshop, Friday, May 29, and Saturday, May 30, 2025
9:00 a.m. - 4 p.m.
$230.00
In this watercolor workshop, Jim will start with a brief talk on brushes, paints, and subject. He paints from life and up close to capture the structure and some of the interesting botanical textures. Choose your subject from flowers, vegetables, fruits, pods, vines or weeds; whatever you find interesting.
Each artist can bring their own botanical subject or you can chose from a collection in the studio. For me, Botanical Paintings have always been a calming exercise in thoughtful observation and creative response. At the end of the day I will give a critique to the artist's that want one.
MATERIALS TO BRING
Students will provide some their own materials. A supply list will be sent out prior to the workshop.
Contact Pickle Street School Studio to register.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I was raised in Grand Rapids and educated at Kendall College and the Art Institute of Chicago. After serving in the Navy I returned to Grand Rapids and began a thirty year career in commercial Illustration. I began messing around with watercolors in 1984 to get away from the restrictions of my commercial art business and found that painting from life was spontaneous, intense and emotional. And I've never tired of it. In 2021 The Michigan Watercolor Society inducted me as a signatory member. I've been a long time member of Grand Valley Artists and currently serve as Gallery Director.
