with Carrie Andrews
Two day workshop: Thursday, Sept. 14 and Friday, Sept. 15, 2023
9 a.m. - 4 p.m. daily (1 hour lunch break)
$225.00
In two fun-filled days we will participate in directed play and find exciting and surprising inspiration for future acrylic and mixed media abstract paintings.
Using acrylic paint and collage materials on large sheet of primed paper we will participate in guided play, exploring the principle of differences that will bring your abstract art alive. The emphasis is on playing more and thinking less—and celebrating “accidents” when they happen. I will also be demonstrating techniques in acrylic and mixed media painting including additive and subtractive processes.

About the Artist
In 1990 I received an MFA at the University of Michigan Art School in art and design. I worked as a designer for many years, all the while painting, sketching, and designing spaces and things. In my personal art, I have worked in other mediums but most recently I have been working in an abstract direction using acrylic paint and collage. I love capturing the energy of pouring, scratching, scraping, and smearing and contrasting that with precisely rendered shapes and lines. I often collage in hand-made papers created from extra paint on my palette. Over time, layers of thick, smeared paint build interesting textured surfaces of rich color.
