Luscious color and instant gratification pretty much sum up what it feels like to paint with pastel! Even so, keeping those beautiful colors vibrant requires a bit of background knowledge. Lisa Olivarez will provide instruction on the use of pastel, with a bit of information on color and composition thrown in. You will leave feeling more confident in the medium with the knowledge of how to effectively paint in pastel.
MATERIALS TO BRING
Students will provide their own materials. A supply list will be sent out prior to the workshop.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
What really forms our artistic practices? For me, I'd say my youth. I had a fantastic outdoor childhood while growing up in Michigan. I enjoyed swimming 'til 10 pm sunset, water-skiing, sailing and ice skating in the winters. Our neighborhood was adjacent to seemingly endless pine and oak forests where my friends and I were free to roam on foot or bicycle. Looking back at those summers, the memories are tangible, visceral. It's no surprise that in my artistic practices I love to paint outdoors and my work is largely landscape based.
I hold a B.F.A. from Wayne State University in Detroit and a Teaching Certificate from The University of Texas. I continue to develop my artistic practices in workshops and through artist's residences in the US and Greece. Some of the artists I've studied under include Robert Wilbert, Gilda Snowden, and Albert Handell. Constantly growing and learning, I've studied electronically under Scott Christensen, Richard Schmid and many more. My backyard studio is surrounded by nature and sits just west of Kalamazoo, Michigan.
